What goes into a rebar shop drawing package?
A good rebar shop drawing package lets the site fix steel and the yard cut and bend it without asking questions. Here is what a complete package contains, and what slows approval down.
Placing drawings
Plans and elevations for each element, such as foundations, rafts, columns, walls, slabs, beams and stairs, showing every bar by mark, size, spacing and position. Each drawing references the consultant's design drawing and revision it is based on.
Sections and details
Sections through beams, walls and junctions showing bar positions, cover, laps and anchorage. Congested areas, such as column-beam junctions, get their own enlarged details.
Bar marks
Every bar has a unique mark that ties the drawing to the schedule. Marks are grouped logically by element and pour so the site can find them quickly.
Bar bending schedules
The schedule lists each bar mark with its size, shape code, dimensions, number of bars and total weight, ready for the rebar yard. It must match the placing drawings exactly.
Laps, couplers and construction joints
Lap lengths and positions, coupler locations and pour breaks are shown clearly, following the design and the project code.
Openings and cast-in items
Openings, sleeves and embedded items from the structural and MEP drawings, with the trimming bars around them.
How to get it approved faster
Base the package on the latest design revision and say so on every sheet. Raise RFIs on clashes and missing information before submitting, not after. Keep the drawing and schedule in step. Check every drawing before issue, so the consultant's comments are about design choices, not errors.
