Gym floating floors and acoustic gym floor isolation in Dubai

Gyms in residential towers, hotels and mixed-use buildings create heavy impacts that rubber tiles alone cannot stop. We install floating floors that isolate the gym from the structure, so dropped weights and running machines do not disturb the floors below.

01 — Scope

Why gym floors need more than rubber.

Rubber gym flooring protects the surface and softens light impacts. A dropped dumbbell or barbell puts far more energy into the slab, and that energy travels through the structure to the floors below. A floating floor adds mass and a resilient break between the gym and the building.

01

Free-weight and lifting areas

Heavier floating build-ups under dumbbell and barbell zones, where impacts are largest.

02

Cardio areas

Floating floors under treadmills and other running machines, which create constant low-frequency vibration.

03

Studios and classes

Floating floors for group exercise, spinning and dance studios with amplified music and jumping.

04

Edges, columns and services

Perimeter isolation at walls and columns, and resilient sleeves where drains and services pass through.

05

Drawings and submittals

Build-ups, shop drawings, material submittals and method statements for the consultant and building management.

02 — Technical detail

What makes a gym floating floor work.

Zone the floor

Not every area needs the same build-up. We plan heavier sections under lifting and free-weight zones and lighter build-ups in cardio and circulation areas, which controls cost and height.

Match the system to the structure

A floating floor adds weight. We check the extra load with the structural engineer, especially when a gym is fitted into an existing building.

Keep it isolated

A single rigid contact cancels the benefit. Equipment fixed through the floating floor into the slab, or skirting screwed through the perimeter strip, are common causes of failure, so we detail and inspect them.

Finish on top

Rubber tiles, platforms and other gym finishes go on top of the floating floor. We agree the finish levels with the fit-out contractor so thresholds and level changes work.

03 — Approach

A clear path from enquiry to handover.

  1. Review

We review the architectural, structural and MEP drawings, the loads and the acoustic requirement for each area.

  2. Submit

System selection, layer build-ups, shop drawings and material submittals go to the consultant for approval.

  3. Install

Isolation layer, perimeter strips, sleeves and the floating screed or slab are installed to the approved details.

  4. Inspect

Every area is checked for bridging before finishes go down, and inspection records are handed over.

04 — Questions

Frequently asked questions

Will rubber gym flooring stop noise to the floor below?

It helps with light impacts and protects the surface, but heavy dropped weights and running machines usually need a floating floor beneath the rubber to stop noise and vibration reaching the structure.

Can you install a floating floor in an existing gym?

Yes, if the structure can carry the extra load and the floor levels allow for the added height. We check both before quoting.

Does the whole gym need a floating floor?

Not always. We often use heavier build-ups only under free-weight and lifting areas, with lighter build-ups elsewhere.

Do you supply the gym rubber flooring?

Our scope is the floating floor and its isolation details. The finish on top can be by the fit-out contractor or gym supplier, and we coordinate levels with them.
